Zozodo Gemstone Consultancy and Mining Company Limited (ZGC-LTD) recently conducted a Mining Career Talk program, reaching over 3,000 secondary school students across six institutions in Mzimba Boma. The initiative aimed to ignite interest in mining-related fields and motivate learners to work towards achieving their career goals.

The program took ZGC-LTD's team to six secondary schools,Including Mzimba Secondary School, Daxy Academy Secondary School, Mnjiri Community Day Secondary School, Radar Girls Academy Secondary School, Mzimba Christian Academy Secondary School, and St Francis Secondary School.

The interactive sessions provided students with a unique opportunity to engage with industry experts, explore career paths, and gain insights into the qualifications required to succeed in the mining sector.

Industry experts shared insights on career paths like Geologist, Hydrologist, Gemmologist, Earth Scientist,GIS Experts, Mining Engineer, and Surveyor, highlighting the importance of STEM subjects.

INSPIRING EXCELLENCE IN STEM SUBJECTS: AWARDS AND RECOGNITION

ZGC-LTD's commitment to nurturing talent was evident in the awards presented to top-performing students in Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English, and Technical Drawing received awards and recognition from ZGC-LTD. Recipients received stationery and a coveted precious stone prize for the quiz winner, symbolizing the company's commitment to fostering excellence.

BRIDGING THE RESOURCE GAP

ZGC-LTD donated a mineral resource map and rocks (igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic) to each school, addressing the lack of resources for mining practical lessons. This will enable students to learn and indicate mineral resources found in Malawi and worldwide.

STUDENT IMPACT

"The Mining Career Talk was inspiring," said one student. "I want to be a mining engineer and contribute to Malawi's development." Majority of students appreciated the recognition, saying it motivated them to remain focused on their career goals.

Speaking on behalf of the schools, Senior representatives from each school welcomed the initiative, acknowledging its potential saying it will help and guide students in making informed decisions about their subjects and career paths. "This program has come at a critical juncture, helping our students navigate the vast opportunities in the mining industry," said one representative.
